The Division of Nueva Ecija conducted a Joint Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training for Special Science Elementary School (SSES) teachers in seven implementing schools in the division last April 24-26 at Talavera Central School, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
The 3-day training entitled “Division Training on the Utilization of Learning Technologies in the Classroom, Content, and Instructional Strategies” aimed to create outputs using various productivity suites application, apply enhanced ICT skills in creating opportunities to improve learning, evaluate online resources and map said resources with the competencies of the current curriculum, and develop ICT-enhanced lessons that foster thinking among pupils in a whole class setting or in small groups.
Dr. Johanna N. Gervacio, OIC-ASDS Special Programs and Projects and Mr. Enrique E. Angeles Jr., OIC-EPS ICT both graced the opening program of the training. According to Dr. Gervacio, Science especially SSES is close to her heart (being the former EPS in Science in the Division of Gapan City) that is why all she wanted is for the improvement of the SSES Project and the teachers as well. Mr. Angeles inspired the teachers to do well in teaching by enhancing Science lessons through ICT. He showed also his expertise as one of the resource speakers. Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) was introduced as one of the resources of technologically enhanced lessons in different learning areas. He trained the teachers well on how to explore the educational website.
Teacher-participants are from central schools of Talavera, San Isidro, Guimba West, Sta. Rosa, Zaragoza, Jaen and Rizal together with their principal and their respective district coordinators who went through intensive training in enhancing Science lessons through ICT as needed in the implementation of SSES Curriculum. They were engaged in different activities and as proof of learning they need to submit individual/ group output as instructed by the OIC-EPS in Science Beverly T. Mangulabnan. Topics that were discussed are Review of Computer Lessons by Norma U. Vigilia and Leo Iblasin, Integrating ICT in Teaching Science by Dr. Reynaldo E. Francisco, Changing the Teaching Approach in the 21st Century Classroom by Zenaida J. Rimorin, Nurturing Young Scientists Focus on Science Processes by May A. Fernandez, Interactive Teaching by Rowena S. Clemente and Research and Technology by Argie B. Pamintuan.
Demo teachings were effectively done on the last day of training. Two teachers from Sta. Rosa CS and Zaragoza CS did the return demonstration teaching in Science utilizing the technology. Video lessons made were presented and necessary critiquing on the project was given. In general, the training was really a success. SSES teachers were all equipped in using technology in teaching Science through the effort of the brilliant minds of trainers and DepEd administrators and officials. SSES teachers are ready to welcome the school year 2013-2014.
